![]() Investing in Your Children's Future In 2006, and again in 2008, community members in the Comstock Public School District passed two sinking fund property tax millages in order to begin the task of upgrading all of the educational and athletic facilities in the district. Sinking funds, unlike traditional tax bonds, generate a fixed amount of funds over the period of the tax and incurr no interest. The Comstock Commmunity has taken the approach of "pay as you go" to fund the needs of our schools today, and in the future. In 2006, voters passed a 5 year tax millage to generate over 6 million dollars to cover the urgent needs around the district, including roof and boiler replacements throughout the district, carpet and asphalt work, as well as totally renovated science rooms at Comstock High School. In 2008, voters overwelmingly passed a two year tax millage to fund the complete renovation of Comstock Stadium at a cost of 1.3 million dollars. The stadium was originally build in 1966 and had served the community well over the years until its wood deck and steel frame structure could no longer be affordably maintained. Renovation included a new natrual turf field with irrigation and drainage system, new bleachers, lights, sound system, as well as miscellanious site improvements. The Comstock Community believes in investing in our children's future, and will continue to invest in school renovation and construction projects as needs become relevent for our children's success. |
2008 Sinking Fund Roof Projects
Through the sinking fund proceeds the Comstock Public Schools will be replacing a little more than 126,500 square feet of roofs on the following buildings: High School NEMS East Green Meadow North Please click on the building name to see a schematic of the roof sections to be replaced. These are the remaining roof sections that need to be replaced. After this roof replacement project the district should not have to replace any roofs for the next 20 years. Many people have asked "I thought you already replaced the roof at _____." The district has been on a roof replacement program since 1999. The district has been replacing those sections of roof that are in the worst shape at each building. This meant that each year that roof work was done, there was usally more than one building being worked on. Thus, staff, students and parents may have seen roof crews working on their buidling multiple years in a row. The roofs that are being replaced this year are roofs that were last replaced during the 1990-91 bond issue. For a complete roof History please click on the link below:
With the most recent roof bids the district received very favorable bids. The 2008 bids were approximately $2/square foot cheaper than the bids we received in 2006. This is allowing the district to complete the remaining roof replacement program significantly under budget. On behalf of the students and staff of the Comstock Public Schools, thank you for your generous support. |
